  25. Introduction:
  26. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  27. ImageDesk is a program to  catalog  graphics  archives  by  generating
  28. small   representations  of  pictures,  so  called  thumbnails.  Those
  29. thumbnails are internally being expanded into  objects  which  include
  30. all  essential  data of its represented picture. These can be combined
  31. into loadable and savable thumbnail catalogs in which XPK  compression
  32. is  supported  to  reduce  memory  consumption  on storage medias. The
  33. catalogs are directory orientated, this  means  the  pictures  of  all
  34. included  thumbnails  are  in  the  same directory path. the following
  35. picture types are supported and will be recognized automatically:

  37.    · IFF ILBM (color mapped, EHB, HAM, HAM8, DEEP, DCOL )
  38.    · GIF (87a, 89a)
  39.    · JPEG (1)
  40.    · PCX (1 bit upto 32 bit)
  41.    · BMP (4,8 and 24 bit, OS/2 and Windows formats, unpacked only)
  42.    · PCD (upto BASE size)
  43.    · PNM (P4, P5 und P6)
  44.    · TARGA
  45.    · Amiga DATATYPES (picture class)

  47. The corresponding picture of  a  thumbnail  object  can  be  shown  if
  48. requested.  Therefore  two internal viewers, the window and the screen
  49. viewer, exist for each internal supported format. The latter are  able
  50. to  view  Images  on CyberGraphics, Picasso or standard 8 bit screens,
  51. but it is also possible to specify external viewers or AREXX  programs
  52. which ImageDesk will call on demand.
